More about this book

A fabulous page-turning story of an epic love story that crosses continents and timelines - a 'gobble it all up in one sitting' novel full of romance and suspense.

Description

'...a heady blend of wit, charm, and romantic sizzle, all wrapped around a tantalizing mystery.' Anne Fortier, New York Times bestselling author
When twenty-something Wall Street analyst Kate Wilson attracts the notice of the legendary Julian Laurence at a business meeting, no one's more surprised than she. Julian's relentless energy and his extraordinary intellect electrify her, but she's baffled by his sudden interest. Why would this handsome British billionaire -- Manhattan's most eligible bachelor -- pursue a pretty but bookish young banker who hasn't had a boyfriend since college?
The answer is beyond imagining . . . at least at first. Kate and Julian's story may have begun not in the moneyed world of twenty-first-century Manhattan but in France during World War I, when a mysterious American woman emerged from the shadows of the Western Front to save the life of Captain Julian Laurence Ashford, a celebrated war poet and infantry officer.
Now, in modern-day New York, Kate and Julian must protect themselves from the secrets of the past, and trust in a true love that transcends time and space.
'History meets romance meets suspense! Compelling, original and wildly romantic, Beatriz Williams' prose is stunning and the plot edge-of-your-seat gripping. Overseas is an absolute triumph - I loved every page.' Tilly Bagshawe, New York Times bestselling author

'I’m a sucker for a time travel romance even though they usually do my head in. The author’s voice is fresh and enjoyable and I was totally caught up.' - read the rest of this review at the Australian Romance Readers Association blog

Reader reviews

'I have never been enamored by the idea of time travel, but something about this book gripped me right from the start.   I found myself stealing moment to read, forgetting to make dinner for the family, ignoring my favorite TV programs... A fast paced, exciting story,  so well written that you feel you know Kate and would recognize her  if she suddenly appeared alongside.' - G. Vance

'Once I had worked out the connection [between Julian and Kate] I thought for sure I knew how the book was going to end but I was pleased to find that I was wrong. Just how do all these people manage to come from a different time into our time and who is out to get Julian and  why.  Wonderful   mysteries written into a tale of  love. History meets romance meets suspense!

'This is a wonderfully written story about romance, love, friendship, betrayal and time travel that is edge-of-your-seat gripping. I found myself swept away with the story and hated putting the book down.' - A. Day

'In 1916 Amiens, France, Kate a Wall street investment analyst from 2007, must warn Julian, the man she loves to save his life. We cut to Wall Street, where at a meeting Julian spots Kate and practically throws himself at her. But she doesn't understand who this strange man is and how he could be interested in her. Romance of the truest kind follows, but with a twist. Why does he keep lying to her and trying to control her? Kate can't figure it out because it doesn't fit with his character. Of course, it all becomes clear in the end. The never-ending complexities of the relationship and lack of plot in the middle part of the book creates a frustrating slowness. But keep slogging as the cracking pace resumes with unpredictable twists and turns, and a deeply satisfying finale.

'Romantic diehards will love this syrupy gooey mess of love that has the many necessary ingredients: impossibly handsome billionaire with Edwardian notions of courtship and morals; time travel that places us in WW1 France; a young intelligent modern women swept of her feet; the other-worldliness of Julian, her lover, that will resonant with Twilight fans; lots of loved up dialogue and scenes but no real sex scenes (sorry, fans of Fifty Shades of Grey); and oodles of suspense as we wonder how will he die, why will he die, why does he keep lying to her, will Kate save him and how do they time travel? Kick back and enjoy the sweet treats of Overseas by Beatriz Williams.' - M. Hohnberg

'This book had me enthralled from the very beginning.  As with all "time travelling tales" this one had its moments where I had to go back a page or two to see if what I thought I was reading made good sense!

'Kate is a lovely personality for the heroine of the story. She is open and loving and I found myself with a big smile on my face with some of the things she said.  I could hear Julian's voice quite clearly in my head.  Sometimes when reading a book this is not always the case, but I could hear his British accent, softening when he spoke to his lovely - and beloved - Kate.

'The book alternates between 1916 and 2007, where Julian is in 1916 an army captain, full of bravery and authority and 2007 where he runs a highly successful business with equal authority.  It appears he has been waiting for Kate and meets her in most unusual circumstances and proceeds to pursue her, eventually!

'I feel the book had a good balance of romance and daring, with some of the exploits the cast of characters gets up to (about which I am not going to divulge)! I would recommend this to somebody who can see the romance in any situation.' - D. Dolan

'What a wonderful heart-warming story of love with a twist of time travelling. I thoroughly enjoyed Overseas, and will be passing it onto others to enjoy. The story told first hand by the lovely Kate, moves back and forward between 21st century and 1916. This was such a unique idea that captivated me from the beginning, and from those first couple of chapters I knew this book would be brilliant. I loved the interaction between Kate and the very handsome Julian, which kept me enthralled in their duel-time romance. The drama, suspense and romance made for such a great story to be told. The historical aspects were a breath of fresh air, and added a whimsical touch to the settings and I found myself loving the parts where you travelled back in time with Kate. Was a fabulous page turner which I just got caught up in, and would definitely be a great read again in the future.' - A. Lollo, QLD

'If you like an easy read that is not just fluff, then read on.

Girl meets boy.
Boy pursues girl.
Girl has doubts about boy.
Boy proves everlasting love in a way that will leave girl in no doubt as to his intentions.

This is a great story of modern day "courting" coupled with timeless romance.  This is chic lit with a twist, and I guarantee you will enjoy it.' - J. Kerridge, QLD
