Patrick Gallagher

Patrick Gallagher is Allen & Unwin's Chairman. He set up Allen & Unwin in Australia as a "one man band" in 1976 and built a publishing program which grew steadily through the 1980's, expanding from non-fiction and academic books into fiction and children's books. In 1990 Patrick led an MBO which saw Allen & Unwin become the largest independent Australian publisher. The publishing program has grown to some 250 new books published each year, along with a wide range of titles from leading international publishers represented by Allen & Unwin.

Robert Gorman

Robert Gorman is CEO of Allen & Unwin. He began his publishing career here in 1986, as an academic representative. Other roles at Allen & Unwin followed, including national sales manager and later sales director. After studying for an MBA, Robert joined HarperCollins Australia as sales director, moving on to become managing director in 2004 and in 2005 was appointed CEO. Robert came full circle in 2008, returning to Allen & Unwin as CEO.

Paul Donovan

Paul Donovan is an Executive Director of Allen & Unwin. Prior to this he was Managing Director and before that the Sales and Marketing Director. He started selling Allen & Unwin books in September 1977, saw the establishment of Allen & Unwin as a free standing Australian business in 1979 and was a founding director of the independent - Australian - Allen & Unwin which was created through a management buyout in July 1990 when the British firm was sold.

David Martin

David Martin is the Director of Finance and Administration, and has been with Allen & Unwin since 1999. He has 30 years experience in the publishing industry, holding positions in finance and operations both in Australia and United Kingdom.

Sue Hines

Sue Hines is the trade publishing director at Allen & Unwin. Sue started her publishing career at the independent publishing house McPhee Gribble. She was the managing editor during the period that the company was the powerhouse of Australian literary publishing and she worked with a range of fiction and non-fiction writers. She then moved to Reed Books to start their first paperback imprint and later went on to become the company’s non-fiction and illustrated publisher, publishing many well-known authors during that time. In 1996 she moved to Allen & Unwin as the publisher of her own imprint and was appointed as trade publishing director in 2005.
