John Long grew up in Melbourne and began collecting fossils when he was seven. He found his first dinosaur bones near Inverloch, Victoria, when he was a university student. He worked as a palaeontologist in Canberra, Tasmania and WA. Today he lives in Perth and works at the WA Museum. He is the author of several books for adults and children including Dinosaurs of Australia and other animals of the Mesozoic Era, Reed Books 1990, and Dinosaur Dealers, Allen + Unwin 2002.
