Do you hire freelance editors and proofreaders?

Allen & Unwin does hire experienced freelance editors and proofreaders from time to time. Please note: our freelance register is very full and we can't guarantee anyone any work. For copy-editing work we are only taking applications from people with previous book editing experience.

If you have at least 2 years experience of copy-editing and/or know the standard mark-ups for  proofreading, send your application and CV to:

Do you hire illustrators and designers?

Allen & Unwin employs in-house illustrators and designers. However, we also employ freelance illustrators, designers and photographers if suitable projects occur. If you would like to submit material please send your CV, with a cover letter and a printed copy of your portfolio of work to:

As we receive many samples of work each year, it usually takes time for material to be assessed by the relevant editors and publishers. We will be in touch with you if a suitable position arises that we believe matches your skills and experience.
