A one-day course offering aspiring writers the opportunity to find out what really goes on inside a publishing house, how publishers make their choices and how to improve one's chances of publication. The program will include sessions on sure-fire proposals, editing your first page, opening chapters, how to write a great covering letter and the top ten reasons manuscripts are rejected.

The day will include group sessions along with individual feedback – for this you are required to please send in the first two pages of your manuscript, double-spaced, Times New Roman, Size 12 with your name, the title and the genre in the header or footer at least two weeks ahead of the course date. Please send your two pages to faberacademy@allenandunwin.com.

The course includes:

• A full day of intensive tuition from Sue Hines
• Lunch and regular tea and coffee breaks
•A 10% discount on full priced books purchased at any Readings shop – the official bookseller for the Academy (not valid for online purchases, other offers, lay-bys or special orders)

Please note that Getting Published is targeted at students who have manuscripts written for the adult market; either fiction or nonfiction. If your manuscript is for young adults, children or is a picture book, Faber Academy also runs Getting Published as a Writer for Children. About the Tutor

Sue Hines is the trade publishing director at Allen & Unwin and in that capacity she is responsible for shaping the company's list and managing the publishing team. In a career stretching back nearly thirty years to the independent publishing house McPhee Gribble when that company was the powerhouse of Australian literary publishing Sue has been a publisher of fiction, non fiction and illustrated books.
