QUESTION 3 If you added another character, what would his/her name and role in the story be? Would they also write in e-mail format? (Josefine, Turner Primary School)
ELIZABETH HONEY
That’s a big question, Josefine. That’s a new story! There could be a character somehow related to Gerit, a kid she’s in touch with – a neighbour? family? friend? accidental acquaintance? – who could open up Central Australia as a location. It’s an extraordinary place.
I can’t say a name because I need to know the character before I’m sure of their name. It’s the same with the title of a book. Often it’s best to decide on the title after the story is well and truly shaped because then you know it’s apt. Would they email? Yes, probably, somehow. That can be a problem. In my book Remote Man there is a gang of kids on the net, around the globe, and Cleverton, the boy in Jamaica is poor and it was difficult to find a believeable way for him to have access to a computer.

I think we already have many characters in the book and I am very happy if the readers can keep track of them. I can’t imagine any other character I would like to add.
