2018 Davitt Awards Winner of Best Debut

We are delighted to announce that The Dark Lake by Sarah Bailey has won the Best Debut Book category at the 2018 Davitt awards!

The Davitt Awards for best crime books by Australian women were launched in 2001 to provide some much needed - and overdue - recognition for Australian women crime writers. They are named after Ellen Davitt, the author of Australia's first mystery novel, Force and Fraud, in 1865. Six Davitt Awards are presented annually: Best Adult Novel; Best Young Adult Novel; Best Children's Novel; Best Non-fiction Book; Best Debut Book (any category); and Readers' Choice (as voted the 600 members of Sisters in Crime Australia).

The winners were announced on 11 August at an event in Melbourne with guest presenter and Danish crime writer Sissel-Jo Gazan. Read about the other category winners here.
