Vale P.D. James

0 James PDBritish crime fiction author P.D. James has died, aged 94.

James was best known for her series of detective novels starring policeman and poet Adam Dalgliesh. She wrote 14 Dalgliesh books in total, as well as other fiction and nonfiction titles, including The Children of Men and Death Comes to Pemberley. She was made a life peer in 1991 and served as president of the UK's Society of Authors from 1997 to 2013.

A spokesperson for her publisher Faber said: 'It is difficult to express our profound sadness at losing P D James, one of the world's great writers
and a Faber author since her first publication in 1962 ... Working with her was always the best of times, full of joy. We will miss her hugely.'

Allen & Unwin share Faber's sadness at the loss of one of the world's finest writers. We grew to know her through the great pleasure of bringing her later work to market throughout Australia and New Zealand, including her most recent novel Death Comes to Pemberley, the BBC TV adaptation of which screened locally on ABC TV. Spreading the word of the delights and satisfaction to be had in reading a P.D. James book has been a privilege and it has been an honour to have been of service to this acclaimed Faber author and her marvellous creation, Inspector Adam Dalgliesh.
