Allen & Unwin does not give out address, phone or email details of our authors.

How do I apply for a job at Allen & Unwin?

Employment opportunities at Allen & Unwin are generally advertised in the Weekly Book Newsletter published by Thorpe-Bowker or on Seek.com.au, as they become available for positions other than those mentioned below (such as sales and marketing roles).

Does Allen & Unwin hire freelance editors and proofreaders?

Allen & Unwin does hire experienced freelance editors and proofreaders. Please note: our freelance register is very full and we can't guarantee anyone any work. For copy-editing work we are only taking applications from people with previous book editing experience.

Do you hire illustrators and designers?

Allen & Unwin employs in-house illustrators and designers. However, we also employ freelance illustrators, designers and photographers if suitable projects occur. If you would like to submit material please send your CV, with a cover letter and a printed copy of your portfolio of work to:

As we receive many samples of work each year, it usually takes time for material to be assessed by the relevant editors and publishers. We will be in touch with you if a suitable position arises that we believe matches your skills and experience.

How can I obtain a book cover image?

To find the book you are looking for, you can search by title, author, ISBN or keyword in the search box at the top of the page. (Alternatively, you can try the Advanced Search for more search options).

Once you have found the book, you simply need to click through to the book details page. For high-resolution cover images, click the 'Download cover' button positioned below the cover image.

Where can I buy Allen & Unwin ebooks?

Allen & Unwin does not sell ebooks directly from this website. Allen & Unwin and Murdoch Books ebooks are available from all the major ebook retailers in the Australian and New Zealand market, and also internationally, including: Kindle, Apple, Kobo, Google, Ebooks.com, and most booksellers with ebook programs. Not all books are suited to all ebook formats and not all retailers carry all ebook formats, so you may need to check more than one retailer if you're looking for an ebook edition of a particular book. Prices may vary too as they are controlled by the retailer.

The book I am after is not available from allenandunwin.com – where else can I find it?

Allen & Unwin books are sold in bookstores and other retailers throughout Australia and New Zealand. Even if a book is temporarily unavailable for purchase on our website, you may still be able to locate a copy in stock at another retailer. We suggest contacting your local bookstore in the first instance, or trying other Australian bookseller websites.

 

Shopping FAQs

I can't set up an account because it says 'user name in use'. What do I do?

When you receive that message, it means that you already have an existing account with us using that email address. If you can't remember your password, just click the 'forgotten your password?' link and a verification code will be sent to you. Once you have received the verification code, you will be able to choose a new password for your account.

How long will it take for my order to arrive?

Within Australia / New Zealand: approximately 5-7 working days

For all other countries, it will depend on the delivery method you have chosen:

International Courier: 7-10 working days
International First Class post: 2-3 weeks

Your order will be delivered by Australia Post unless you have selected to use international courier. Please note the above delivery times are a guide only and cannot be guaranteed as there may be delays with Australia Post or other carrier. For delivery within Australia and New Zealand, please allow up to 14 days for your book to arrive.

Important shipping information:

All Allen & Unwin orders for addresses within Australia are despatched as e-parcels with Australia Post. E-parcels must be signed for on delivery, and if you are not available to sign, a card will be left, the parcel will be taken to your local post office and it will need to be collected by you. Books not collected will be returned to our distributors.

How can I track my order?

Please note that there is no tracking available on orders for delivery via post.

Can I get a refund or exchange on my purchase?

We don’t offer refunds or exchanges for online purchases unless they are faulty so please take care when selecting your items.

What is the price of shipping?

Shipping will be calculated when you fill in your delivery address at the check out. It will be added to your total before you make your payment and will vary depending on the number of items ordered, delivery method and delivery address.

I'm an overseas customer, how do I find out how much the book costs?

All prices shown on this website are in Australian dollars and are inclusive of Australian GST (Goods and Services Tax of 10%).

If you are purchasing a book from overseas, you will be charged in Australian dollars through your credit card. You will not have to pay the GST (Goods and Services Tax of 10%). Please note that some countries may charge duties on the 'import' of parcels. These charges are the responsibility of the recipient so please check the customs service in your destination country to see if charges apply.

The final cost of your purchase will be updated when your delivery address is filled out during the check out process.

We can only cancel your order if the item(s) you have ordered have not yet entered the despatch process. We process our website orders once a day and after this, we won't be able to cancel your order.

How do I report a faulty book or printing problem in an Allen & Unwin title?

Faulty books (eg with printing or binding problems) should, in the first instance, be returned to the original place of purchase. The retailer can assess the fault and offer a replacement book.

If it is not possible to return the book to its place of purchase, or you bought it from the Allen & Unwin website, it can be sent, along with a letter explaining the problem to Allen & Unwin’s distribution warehouse:
