Allen & Unwin is keen to assist children and teenagers to access books and reading during the COVID-19 pandemic. We also need to support our creators in ensuring their intellectual property is safeguarded against piracy, and that they continue to receive income for their beautiful work.
As such, our guidelines regarding usage during COVID-19 are as follows.
We are delighted for teachers and librarians to read from Allen & Unwin books to children who are studying from home and/or self-isolating for the period of the pandemic. You are welcome to create readings at no charge for school classroom or library storytime use within a closed platform. Bookstores may also create virtual and/or in-store readings of our titles during the pandemic period for inclusion on their store’s website or social media, or for use during an online promotional event. Authors and illustrators wishing to read from their own work only may also do so during the period of the pandemic. All readings may be live-streamed or recorded, provided that the recording is non-downloadable to the public. Please acknowledge Allen & Unwin and the book's title, author and illustrator (if applicable) at the beginning of your recording.
These special arrangements are temporary and will remain in force whilst COVID-19 remains as a WHO-declared pandemic and libraries, schools and bookstores are closed. Once lockdowns end, all recordings must be destroyed and online recordings taken down.
Cover images may be downloaded directly from our website.
Allen & Unwin cannot supply full PDFs of our books under any circumstances.
